Step 2: Plan Your Schedule

To assist you in the registration process, use the Schedule-Planning Worksheet How to view this PDF to fill out a preliminary schedule. Also, write down the 5-digit course call number for each course. While you are planning you need to be aware of the Credit Hour Limitations.

Full or Unavailable Courses: Sometimes the course section selected will be full. Occasionally academic departments must change the time the course is offered. When this happens the department cancels the original section and adds a new section that reflects the time change. Students may still be able to enroll in a closed course through the use of Wait Lists and the Course Reservation Program. Include alternate course choices on your schedule-planning worksheet in case courses you request are full or cancelled.

How to Search for Courses:

There are many ways to find the available courses so you can plan your schedule. Review each to find the one that best suits your needs. If you have questions regarding the course listings please see Understanding Course Numbers & Listings.

  • Schedule Planner: Use the Schedule Planner to find out about course availability as well as additional course information before registering.  The schedule planner is updated nightly during registration periods, so it is a good planning source, but does not display up-to-the-minute course availability.
    • Using this feature you can search for courses by subject, core requirements, or meeting time and you also have the option to search for only open courses. When a course is displayed, you can access the course description, course restrictions, required books, final exam time, and student ratings of the course.
    • Also, you can map out your schedule to show when you have courses and other scheduled commitments, such as work.

  • Web Registration: You can conduct online course searches via the Course Status feature in web registration. The course search feature is updated on a real-time basis. It can be accessed by logging on to CUConnect with your IdentiKey and password.  Go to the Courses tab and click on Register for Classes (under the Schedule and Grades Channel), and then the Course Status button at the bottom of the page.
    • Using this system you can search for courses by subject, core area, course level/number and meeting time. Searches can also be limited to open courses and sections only.
    • A list of courses will be displayed with the availability information for each. You can add a class or add courses from here if you are eligible to register.
    • Section search is available if a course section is unavailable because the section is closed or has been cancelled. The section search allows you to see if there are any other available course sections that fit your schedule. When you're denied a course section on the web registration page, click on the word 'Search' next to the course, and then click on the Submit button.
