Step 3: Select Student Opportunities

What are Student Opportunities?

The student opportunities consist of various services provided by the university; tickets for concerts, plays, and clubs and student groups. You can you can either participate in these events and groups or merely provide money for their use. Each student opportunity is optional, but when you select an opportunity the appropriate optional fees are charged on your tuition and fee bill.


How to Select Student Opportunities

Students are required to select student opportunities before they register.

  1. In web registration, go to the Student Opp. tab to make student opportunities selections.
  2. You will need to choose the opportunities that you want to support or not.
  3. Confirm your selections.
  4. The student opportunities chosen will appear on the tuition and fee bill.
  5. To make changes to student opportunities, students should contact the appropriate office (information listed below):
    • Changes cannot be made to student opportunity selections online.
    • Deadline: September 10 is the last day to request a refund of any student opportunities fee you selected.

Collegiate Sport Clubs

  • Fee: $4.75
  • Description: Over 1200 students participate in Collegiate Sport Clubs. Participating students are required to cover many out-of-pocket expenses. Though the program is partially subsidized by student fees, the large costs that students face may limit their participation. This optional fee helps to support clubs and decrease the out-of-pocket expenses for participants. It also offsets some of the overhead costs incurred by each club. There are currently over 30 sport clubs that practice, travel, and compete in local, regional, and national events. Coed sports funded include bicycle racing, crew, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, fly fishing, kayaking, racquetball, snowboarding, swimming, tae kwon do, tennis, and triathlon. Men’s sports include baseball, ice hockey, roller hockey, rugby, soccer, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. Women’s sports include dance, ice hockey, rugby, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, water polo, and synchronized skating.

College of Music Concert Card

  • Fee: $30.00 per card
  • Description: Enjoy the hot sounds of jazz, international dance, classical music, and the best of musical theatre and opera! Each concert card gives you $60 worth of Artist Series and CU Opera tickets for only $30 for up to a 50 percent savings over single ticket prices! Cards are valid for the entire 2008–2009 season and allow you to choose from a variety of performances. Concert Cards give you the flexibility to decide what concerts to attend and where you would like to sit. All you have to do is present your card at the box office when choosing tickets. Concert Cards are not mailed to you. Bring your student ID and proof of payment to Imig Music C103 to pick up your College of Music Concert Card.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center

  • Fee: $6.00
  • Description: The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Resource Center is committed to advocating for GLBT students, staff, faculty, and alumni at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The GLBT Resource Center (GLBTRC) addresses numerous needs of the community such as creating safe spaces, providing resources and referral information, enhancing educational programs, building coalitions, outreaching to various constituencies, and advocating for GLBT issues. The GLBTRC offers various programs and services throughout the academic year including welcome activities, national celebrations, educational programs, leadership development, ally trainings, newsletters and events calendars, and a resource library and lounge. Although a department within the Division of Student Affairs, the GLBTRC receives no state general funds or other student fee money. (Reads as “Resource Center” on your bill, with no reference to GLBT.) Fees fund the Center’s programming and outreach efforts.

The Herd Student Membership

  • Fee: 1 year membership $20.00 OR Be a Member Until You Graduate for $49 (a 50% discount)
  • Description: The Herd is the student arm of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association and the largest student group on campus. We are here to bring students together, get them involved, and spread the Buff pride. From FREE admission to Herd events and parties all year long, to a FREE ski bus all season, to FREE CU and Herd gear, to signature events like Mr. CU and CU Idol, to discounts all over Boulder, the Herd offers something for everyone. It also supports academic achievement and community involvement.

Theatre and Dance Season Subscription

  • Fee: $50.00
  • Description: Get a great deal on seven tickets! Theatre and Dance presents exciting drama, timeless comedy, cutting-edge dance, and outstanding musical theatre. The season subscription provides one ticket for Theatre and Dance's annual musical and six tickets that can be used in any combination for performances during the rest of the season. Subscriptions will not be mailed. Visit the Theatre and Dance Box Office in the University Theatre Building, lower level, to choose your seats and dates.

Program Council VIP Pass

  • Fee: $10.00
  • Description:  Do like concerts, movies, comedy, and other face-rocking on campus entertainment? Then the Program Council VIP is for you. For the low introductory cost of $10, you will save big bucks on concert tickets and be first in line at every show. You will also receive the chance to win free autographed posters and other VIP prizes.
